Experiencing Food Poisoning and What First Aid Can Be Done | HEALTH

Women

Food poisoning is a condition when a person feels bad effects on the body after consuming food that has been contaminated with viruses, bacteria or harmful substances. Food poisoning sufferers can experience various conditions such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and so on.

If you feel other symptoms such as dizziness, fever or extreme stomach pain after consuming certain foods, you may have food poisoning which is unknowingly present in the food you have just consumed.

To anticipate that it doesn't get worse, here is the first aid you can do.
  • Drink lots of water to keep your body hydrated and not dehydrated
  • Make a mixture of warm water, lemon juice, sugar and salt to taste, stir then serve
  • Drink a spoonful of honey mixed with ginger water to help reduce inflammation and pain
  • For adult poisoning sufferers, loperamide and bismuth subsalicylate can be given which are sold freely at pharmacies.

Tips for preventing food poisoning

To prevent food poisoning, you can do some of the tips below.
  1. Make sure food is cooked properly, with hot temperatures such as processed meat and others. Hot temperatures can kill any bacteria that may be present in the food
  2. Pay attention to food hygiene. Food that is on the side of the road without a food cover can cause dust and dirt to stick to the food being sold, as a result, cleanliness is not guaranteed and can cause diarrhea.
  3. If you eat at a restaurant, don't hesitate to ask whether the raw eggs and mayonnaise menu have gone through the pasteurization stage themselves or not. The pasteurization process can kill bacteria present in raw food.
Cooking your own food at home is proven to be much healthier and safer for your health. Therefore, try to consume food that is guaranteed to be clean so that you do not suffer from food poisoning due to bacteria or harmful substances.

If indeed you experience food poisoning with severe symptoms and don't get better, don't hesitate to visit a doctor immediately for further examination.
